Rachel Hackling – Head of Education at Summergil House

Rachel Hackling

What is your name and position at Orbis?

Rachel Hackling – Head of Education at Summergil House

How long have you worked for Orbis and in what roles?

I joined Orbis two and a half years ago as a support worker in Ty Bronllys. Following this I was Deputy Head of Education at Ty Bronllys and then moved up to Summergil House.

What does a typical day look like for you?

There isn’t really a typical day! My role can involve everything from completing lesson observations, getting pupil feedback on lessons, assessing possible new pupils or spending time with pupils looking after the chickens.

What do you like about your job and what do you find difficult?

I love being able to work with so many different young people – we have some brilliant pupils at Summergil and seeing the progress they’ve made already makes me feel very excited about the possibilities in their futures.

Being part of a new service and getting everything set up and embedded can be hard work sometimes. Learning about how to run the swimming pool was especially difficult. However, it is worth it because of all the exciting opportunities we have.
